A SAUCHIE man has been given unpaid work after he admitted assaulting a police officer as he was arrested for threatening a family member.

Stephen Bell appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to two charges and not guilty to two other charges.

On January 2 of this year, it was alleged that at an address on Cragganmore, Tullibody, Bell caused fear and alarm by behaving in a threatening manner.

He repeatedly struck a door, shouted, swore and uttered threats of violence and menacing remarks, before then pushing his relative on the body.

After police attended the property, Bell assaulted one of the arresting officers by repeatedly kicking him on the body.

A charge of assault was dropped, as was a charge which stated he resisted arrest and struggled violently with the officers.

Jay Goodwillie, defending, told the court that her client “failed to recollect the assault” and has “abstained from alcohol since the incident and will do so moving forward”.

She added that Bell was extremely embarrassed about the incident and for the shame it has brought his family.

Sheriff David Mackie told Bell, 25, of Sprotwell Terrace, that he “accepts his remorse”.

He was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work in 12 months as well as be supervised for that same period.
