THE Kincardine Bridge will close tonight (Wednesday June 6) as a fresh phase of improvement works begins.

A waterproofing, resurfacing and joint replacement scheme will start at 8pm this evening with the upgrades scheduled to be completed on Friday, July 13.

Full overnight bridge closures on the A985 will take place between 8pm and 6am each evening this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Westbound traffic will be diverted at Longannet Roundabout towards the A977 Toll Road to proceed through Kincardine and Kilbagie.

At Kilbagie Roundabout, vehicles will take the first exit onto the A876 Clackmannanshire Bridge with the diversion ending at Higgins Neuk Roundabout.

Motors heading east will do the same in the opposite direction.

On Saturday, June 9, the works will switch to single lane closures at 6am with temporary traffic lights in place.

First will be the northbound carriageway until Saturday, June 23, when workers will switch over to the other side.

Vehicle activated traffic lights on the A876 North Approach Road into Kincardine will be disabled while the works are being carried out to prevent traffic from turning right onto the bridge. Pedestrian footways will remain open.
