A MAN from Dollar has been fined £2000 after driving with an “astronomically high” amount of alcohol in his system.

Neil MacDonald pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing and re-appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, June 7 for sentencing.

The offence took place on April 14 of this year when the accused was driving along Tarmangie Drive and Innerdownie Place, both Dollar, with a level of 126mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

His reading was almost six times the legal limit, which is 22mcg in 100ml.

Kristina Kelly, defending the 50-year-old, told the court that her client had issues with alcohol which began after the breakup of his relationship with his wife.

Ms Kelly continued to say that MacDonald is “ashamed” of his offence, but that it has triggered him to make positive changes in his life.

In sentencing, Sheriff Dickson told MacDonald, of Innerdownie Place, that his reading was “astronomically high” which made him a “danger to anyone and everyone”.

He was fined £2,000 and disqualified from driving for a period of two years.
