A BEAUTIFUL Saturday welcomed 10 teams and over 150 players to the annual Hillfoots Charity Touch Rugby Tournament.

The volunteers had worked hard to make sure that Tilly Park was in pristine condition for the tournament, which was in aid of Prostate Scotland for the second year in a row.

The matches were keenly contested on the pitch with the intensity of the games increasing as the afternoon wore on, but ultimately it was the 1st XV captain’s side lead by Duncan Arthur that came out victorious.

The club was also honoured to host the Calcutta Cup, won earlier in the season by Scotland at Murrayfield.

Club President Paddy Sherrard said: “It is great that the SRU are permitting this fantastic trophy out of the cabinet to tour local grassroots clubs like Hillfoots RFC.

“The tradition is that while kids can hold the trophy, only adults who have won it can, so hopefully some of our kids who were able to have their picture taken with it today will get the opportunity to hold it again when they win it at Murrayfield or Twickenham.”

Between the entry money, donations and profits from the burger stall, ‘Foots were delighted to raise over £3,000.

Club Secretary Derek Paterson said: “The success of the day is down to the organisers Gavin and Ally Spowage, our sponsors Alloa Rotary Club, Alloa Hire Centre, Atkinson & Co, Energy Assets and Anne Stewart Physiotherapy as well as our many fantastic volunteers.

“A big thanks also to Hazel and Elaine for providing first aid. Hillfoots are delighted to have Prostate Scotland as our charity and anything we can do to raise the awareness of the disease is key.

“This money will help increase awareness of the signs and symptoms, and hopefully bring these numbers down.”
