SIX pupils studying in the Wee County are proudly displaying their art works as part of a national exhibition, having won prizes with their pieces.

The youngsters took part in the Tesco Bank Art Competition for Schools and attended a prize giving ceremony at Stuart Melville College’s Dean Church in Edinburgh.

Their works are now on display at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, before the exhibition moves to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert later in September.

Delivered by the National Galleries of Scotland, with the support of the bank, this year’s competition saw 8,000 entries, including 133 from six Clackmannanshire schools.

Grace Tindall, of Alva Academy, earned first place in the category for students in S1 and S3.

In the same age group, Claudio Citro and Eilidh Scheuerl, both of Dollar Academy, received special merit.

Tomas Nicolussi, also a student at Dollar, came third in the P1 to P3 category while his school mates Caitlin Lowry and Laura Nicol earned special merit in the P4 to P7 age group.

Out of the thousands of entries, only 53 made the final cut.

Linda McClelland MBE, playfair education co-ordinator at the National Galleries of Scotland, said: “If you need cheering up just come along and see the 53 winning works of art from this year’s competition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

“With postcards and calendars for sale in the shop, you can even take a small artwork away with you.

“As ever the work by these young artists from all over Scotland is astonishingly good.”
