CLACKMANNAN Gala Day will bring a host of fun activities to Alexander Park this weekend.

Now in its sixth year, the gala committee has organised a storybook-themed event for Saturday.

The celebrations are set to begin at the town’s Mercat Cross at noon as the parade gathers – featuring a Cinderella carriage to transport this year’s gala queen.

The procession will leave the Main Street, make its way down Kirk Wynd, onto Alloa Road and down Riccarton to reach the park, where the traditional crowning of the queen will take place.

Laura Fyall, chair of the gala committee, said: “This year's gala will feature a ‘storybook’ theme which was chosen as we believe that it is a theme that everyone can get involved in regardless of age or gender.

“Storybooks are part of everyone’s childhood and will create a magical atmosphere for this year's event.

“We would love to see everyone come along dressed as your favourite storybook character to enjoy an entertainment-filled day."

There will be activities until 4pm, including a funfair, petting zoo, dance performances, traditional pipe band, fun dog show, a led bike ride to Black Devon Wetlands (subject to change), pump track and Dr Bike will be on hand to fix any small maintenance problems.

To help with the preparation, the gala committee asked for volunteers to head to the park at 5pm on Friday to help build gazebos for the following day.

Laura added: “We are a small group who would really appreciate a few extra hands to help.”
