PLANS are in the works to open a Men’s Shed in Stirling.
The biggest challenge for budding shedders will be finding premises, agreed chair Michael “Tipp” Maher, Cammy Robertson of Volunteer Scotland and MP Stephen Kerr at a recent meeting.
Sheds across the country are free-to-use spaces where men of all ages can meet new people, form friendships and work away on projects.
Beyond providing a space where they can create, sheds reduce isolation and loneliness, providing support and camaraderie
Tipp said: “It was great to meet with Stephen and Cammy, we were all agreed that a Men’s Shed in Stirling would be a fantastic asset for the local community here.
“Men’s Sheds are community spaces for men to connect, converse and create, working shoulder-to-shoulder. They give a greater sense of camaraderie and reduce loneliness amongst men over 18.”
MP Kerr added: “The Men’s Shed would be a huge boost for Stirling.
“It’s a sad fact that, especially in later life, many men feel loneliness and don’t have a good place to go to meet new people. The Men’s Shed provides such a space.
“The Scottish Men’s Shed Association has opened or planned 120 sheds across Scotland since 2016. They’ve grown rapidly and I will do what I can to ensure Stirling has a Men’s Shed as soon as possible.”
