A BAKE SALE at Stirling Council raised hundreds towards a talking book for blind and partially sighted children.
Employee John Reilly, who has sight loss himself, organised the event at work with a raffle, encouraging fellow staff to bake a variety of cakes and donate prizes for a Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) talking book.
Many donned sunglasses as part of the charity’s Shades for Sight campaign, raising awareness of the importance of protecting the eyes in bright sunshine.
The event raised £370 and John’s trade union Unison donated a further £50 toward the audio-book and the CFSLA Payroll Lottery Committee added a further £80, taking the total to £500.
Angela Paterson, RNIB Scotland fundraising manager, said: “Talking Books are an absolute lifeline for so many blind and partially sighted people, especially those who are older and live alone.
“RNIB lends these out free but we need to raise enough funds to record more books. We want to say a very big thank you to the people of Stirling for their support to date!”
