CHILDREN from across the Wee County have been embracing fun gym sessions at The Wasp Centre.

They played around with foam shapes, clambered up wall frames, teetered along balance beams and had a ball with rope swings, stilts and chutes at the Alloa venue.

The activity has been available for pre-school youngsters on Tuesdays and Fridays as part of Clackmannanshire Council's Active Summer programme.

Once again the local authority has teamed up with organisations to provide a packed schedule of activities during the holiday period.

At the Wasp Centre, a purpose-built venue with a spring floor and foam pit for gymnastics, they had some fun under the supervision of qualified coaches.

Throughout the summer around 1480 youngsters have participated in activities covering sport, dance, leadership training and physical activity.

They have taken place at The Wasp Centre, Lornshill Academy and Firpark Ski Centre, with Sports Development teaming up with CR Cats, Hillfoots Rugby club, Alloa Ballet Company and Muckhart and District Ski Club.

An additional 50 young people have also attended leadership training for sport and dance.

The training lasts 30 hours and candidates achieve their certificate after volunteering at the sports camps.

The most popular activities this year have been tubing, skiing and gymnastics and several high profile athletes have also visited the children and coaches.

International women's footballers Leanne Ross, Lee Alexander and Hayley Lauder joined in a recent session.

Planning of the Active Easter 2019 programme is already underway and will take place April 1-5 and April 8-12.
