IDEAS are being sought to keep a “local gem” open and busy with events in Alloa.

The Liberal Club on Mar Street was taken over by Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface (CTSi) earlier in the summer and recently hosted a successful three-week LEGO display.

And while the exhibition is now over, there are already some events set up at the arts and crafts style building, though suggestions will be well-received.

Louise Orr, team leader for volunteering and routes to work with CTSi, said: “There’s so much potential there.

“We’ll maybe put some training sessions on and make use of the building, if anyone else has any ideas of something that they’d maybe like to have there or maybe use it as a meeting space.”

Among the events already set down is the Local Producers Market taking place between 10am and 3pm today (Wednesday, August 15).

There will be artisan bread from Riverside Bakery CIC, free range goods from Egglicious Eggs, produce from Arran Cheese, jams, bedding plants from Gartinny Nurseries and more.

As part of CTSi’s Big Bike Revival, free repairs and maintenance at the car park of the venue today.

Alloa Bike and Model Centre will be on hand to fix punctures, rattles, poor brakes and anything else the mechanics on hand can deal with.

The revival scheme will be running into the autumn with further maintenance drop-ins and group riding events.

Children could also take part in a sewing workshop as part of the Call to Yarns campaign and get involved with the Community Tapestry Panel.

There are also plans for a crafters market in the future.

The Thrive project already held their celebrations at the Liberal Club earlier in July and Louise is urging people and groups to think about the property if they need space for an event or the likes.

She added: “We are more than willing to look into it and see what we can do.”
