DANCERS from Clacks and Stirling will travel through to Edinburgh today for a unique performance at the festival.

They talented group were in rehearsal for Kadamati last Friday at the Macrobert Arts Centre in a bid to ready themselves for the big day.

And this morning they will head through to the capital for their main performance outside Holyroodhouse this evening.

Sara Kemal, dance artist at Macrobert Arts Centre, said: "We are delighted that some of the very talented young people we work with are getting the chance to be involved in this fantastic event.

"It’s a really unique opportunity and the performers are having a fantastic time. We can’t wait to see them all perform on the 22 August."

Kadamati has brought together over 300 young people of all abilities and backgrounds from across Scotland to take part.

The event was a collaboration between the Edinburgh International Festival, Théâtre du Châtelet and Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.

The dance, which was choreographed by world renowned dancer Akram Khan, was based on the themes of identity, migration, connection and hope.

Khan wanted the performance to conjure up the idea that all people are connected to one another, with the human race being one unified movement that needs to come together.

Today's performance will be the first time Kadamati participants were entirely made up of young people, with the dance forming part of the programme for the Edinburgh International Culture Summit.

Kadamati was commissioned by 14:18 NOW, the UK arts programme for the First World War centenary.

The Edinburgh International Festival aims to bring audiences and artists from all over the world together for three weeks in August, from the worlds of dance, opera, music and theatre.

Other highlights from the festival include performances from the London Symphony Orchestra, Mogwai and St. Vincent.
