THE Tilly Run Buddies' banana fun run was one of the highlights of Sunday's events for Tillicoultry Community Week.

Families joined the club for some laps around the public park, with some runners sporting banana outfits – and one even dressed as a monkey.

Victoria Stephenson, a keen runner with the group, said the banana theme was part of a tradition.

She said: "One of our members did the first Stirling marathon and we all went dressed as bananas to support them. Now it's become a regular thing.

"We also had bubbles and chalk powder for the kids, and bananas from the Co-op for everyone who came down.

"We didn't expect many people to turn up because it was bucketing down with rain until the start. So considering that we had a really good turnout."

Victoria said the youngsters stole the show with some impressive performances.

She added: "Some kids did seven laps of the park, which is nearly three miles. The course went downhill and uphill too so it was really tough.

"The youngest child was three and managed two laps. That's just under a mile."

After Sunday's success, Victoria said the club hope to make the banana fun run an annual event.
