THIS year's Tilly in the Park was another rousing success with local talent giving their time for free to entertain hundreds of residents.

An array of bands, burgers, a beer tent and family fun was waiting for everyone on Friday, August 17, evening when the annual event took place at the public park.

Organised by Hillfoots RFC, the concerts formed a part of the wider Tillicoultry Community Week, which saw a tide of activities in the town, with the aim of bringing people closer together.

Appearing on stage were the young and up and coming Raw Sugar, who were followed by Nae Danger, Mojo Rising, Grandslam and Blue Steel.

Eddie Inglis, the man in charge behind the scenes, gave a nod of thanks to the bands for giving their time and talent free of charge.

While the weather was slightly less favourable this time around, up to around 700 people went along on the evening to enjoy the tunes.

Eddie also said thanks to the many volunteers who assisted, they came not just from the club but all over the town as well, with the organiser saying he could not put the show on without all the helping hands.

He explained one of the key issues is cleaning the park up afterwards, something that was done and dusted by midnight that same evening.

A range of companies also contributed by providing services for free, thanks go to Graeme Russell’s for providing the lorry for the stage, JBT Transport for the specialised vehicle that was used on the park, the GAT Group for the portable toilets and generator and Sterling Furniture.

Entry was by donation, the around £800 raised will be used to put next year’s event on.

Eddie explained it was a great night enjoyed by many, with lots of people showing their appreciation on social media.

He also praised the community week in general for its power in bringing people together, saying: “I think it’s a fantastic event.

“The Rev. Peter Foster deserves a lot of credit for bringing up the idea and getting lots of different events around the village going on.

“The community week committee that organises it is great and personally, I think Tilly, as a community, including the community council, is just pulling more and more things together and are trying to do things for the village.”

He also paid tribute to the fundraising Tilly Ladies, and added: “There are a lot of things happening in the village and the people are making it happen themselves.”
