A YOUNG Tullibody beauty queen visited a Wee County care home last week to chat to residents.

Kaitlyn Shields dropped by the Orchard Care Home in her native town to chat to residents, as she frequently does, as they were also being visited by two therapy alpacas.

In the past, the 13-year-old pageant queen has organised a tombola with the money being split between a number of charities.

Kaitlyn, who is currently Teen Natural Beauty Central Scotland 2017, often raises money for local charities such as Dean’s Journey, Kids Cancer and Abbie’s Army, as well as other charities further afield down south.

Karen Gillespie, deputy manager of the care home, told the Advertiser that the teenager is very well thought of at the residence.

She said: “On behalf of everyone at The Orchard, I wanted to highlight the generosity of Kaitlyn.

"She frequently visits residents and staff and appeared as a pageant queen at our last open day where she spent time chatting to residents.

“She makes fruit baskets and brings them in for the staff and residents and collects trauma teddys which are used to comfort kids in ambulances and hospitals.

"The residents love seeing her in her full pageant dress and she always sends in photos after she has been competing somewhere.”

In 2017 Kaitlyn was picked to be the Scottish ambassador for Miss Great Britain and in September of last year the teen went to Wales to compete where she picked up her current title.

She will soon head off to Spain where she will compete for the European title.

Karen added: “From everyone at the Orchard, we will be supporting you and wishing all the best in your venture to Spain.”
