A DOLLAR man whose globetrotting career in the oil industry was cut short after a stroke has found a new lease of life thanks to a rugged mobility scooter.

Geoff Anderson went from regular flights across the United States and Middle East to being largely housebound ten years ago.

And while the impact of his illness was significant, he refused to let it beat him.

Now, the determined 62-year-old is setting his sights high once again and hopes to scale the Ochils and broadcast his four-wheeled adventures all around the county.

Geoff told the Advertiser: "I saw some amazing places like Azerbaijan and Alaska. The furthest I went was Australia and I've been all over America too.

"Even up to 52 I was fit and active but the stroke affected my life and cut back my mobility. Although I could walk it was exhausting and hard work.

"My mobility is the biggest problem because it has got worse over the ten years."

But after taking delivery of a tough offroad TGA mobility scooter he has been rekindling the adventurous lifestyle he was forced to give up.

Not content with just driving around Dollar, Geoff has been starting to find some more rugged routes to drive along.

He said: "The scooter has made a massive difference. I'm going to go up the Mill Green and I'm hoping to get further up the Ochil Hills too."

But offroad driving on a mobility scooter is not without its risks, as Geoff has already found out for himself.

However, his wife Mel is always on standby and keeps track of him everywhere he goes.

Geoff said: "Even around Dollar I have crashed into a wall and a few times I thought it was going to tip. My friends always say to be careful because it could be dangerous.

"My phone is mounted onto the front of my scooter, and it gives me maps. My wife can also keep track of me using GPS.

"One of the first times I was out I was stopped for ten minutes because I was talking to someone I hadn't seen for years.

"My wife thought something had happened and called up, so I put her on FaceTime so she could speak too."

Geoff's new wheels have been a revelation for the Clacks and paid tribute to the staff at TGA who went the distance for him.

He added: "TGA have been so supportive of me, they are a happy group of people who clearly care about their customers.”

For the time being, Geoff plans to keep exploring on his mobility scooter, and will be posting videos of his adventures on YouTube and Facebook.

He said of his scooter trips: "It keeps life interesting."
