ESCOFFIER'S Alloa took on the cafe at The Leisure Bowl a few months ago and director Gordon Guthrie has already been delighting people with his new menu.

The head chef, who recently celebrated 40 years in the catering industry, has put together a line-up of mouth-watering burgers, warming soups and speciality coffees for visitors.

Head along to the centre to sample the offerings which include an avocado salad bowl, lasagne, garlic bread and salad, sweet potato fries, nachos, baguettes, chips and cheese and more.

Gordon has worked in some of the best kitchens and restaurants in the West End of Glasgow and has been a regular competitor at The Salon Culinaire D Ecosse.

He has a huge amount of expertise and, just last year, was named a master craftsman, Craft Guild of Chefs, and is an SVQ Assessor for Food and Hospitality.

He invites people to grab a hot roll for only £2, try a hot dog, satisfy your sweet tooth with a biscuit or cake, or simply enjoy a coffee made using organic San Francisco Bay coffee beans.

Providing good quality food is a top priority – from homemade macaroni, to chicken nuggets made from scratch, and homemade soups teamed with sandwiches.

There is truly something for everyone with a busy kids' menu for youngsters up to 10-years-old offering meals for only £3, or why not finish off a trip to the Leisure Bowl with some ice-cream.

One very special addition for those looking to conquer a foodie feast is the Wasp Burger, featuring a 6oz steak burger, haggis, melted cheddar and onion rings.

It is a popular choice and the dish is covered in fiery chilli sauce which is a nod to the sting in the tail of a wasp which is, of course, the emblem of Alloa's very own football team.

And if you can't find something to suit your tastes simply ask – Gordon is only too happy to offer gluten-free and vegetarian alternatives where possible.

The cafe, found within the bar area of the centre, offers bistro-style food from Monday-Thursday, 9.30am-3.45pm, Friday, 9.30am-8.45pm, Saturday-Sunday, 10am-3.45pm.

Plans are also underway to compile steak and burger menus, with later opening times expected sometime after the bowling season starts back.
