HARDY green fingered Wee County volunteers are being sought to help out at an animal rescue centre in Fishcross.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for assistance as it is looking to clear the grounds and steps around the beam house at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre.

The clean up will take place this Wednesday, September 19, between 10am and 3pm to get the building ready for a renovation project.

Superintendent Sharon Comrie, of the animal welfare charity, said: “We would be very grateful if keen gardeners in the area would be willing to give up their time to help with this project.

“Before being sold to the society, the beam house, Devon Colliery, was the largest and longest lasting colliery in Clackmannanshire before closing in 1960, ending at least 450 years of coalmining in the area around Sauchie Tower.”

Volunteers will need to bring their own tools, but tea, coffee and sandwiches will be available.
