PUPILS and staff from Alloa Academy teamed together in the name of charity as they raised money for Cancer Research.

A total of 23 girls and three members of staff completed the 5k Pretty Muddy Race for Life in Glasgow on September 9.

All those running in the race had all been directly affected by cancer in some way, whether it was a family member or friend.

The runners all felt this was a great way to raise funds to help beat the condition while paying tribute to those who had suffered.

One participant said it was a wonderful day, and added: “It was great to see positive teamwork and encouragement from each of the girls running. Everyone supported each other and completed the race in under 50 minutes.

“It was a great day and the rain even managed to stay off while we were running although the torrential downpour before we started just added to the mud we had to run through.

“There were several obstacles including climbing walls, tunnels of mud to crawl through, steep hills covered in mud and the favourite part of all was the massive inflatable slide which had a pile of mud at the bottom to end the race.

“It was an excellent day and pupils have done a fantastic job to raise £1500 so far with donations still coming in. We are very proud of everyone who ran and look forward to completing the race again next year.”

Colin Bruce, headteacher at the school, told the Advertiser of his pride at pupils and staff working together.

He said: "I am delighted to see the pupils and staff working together for a great cause.

"Not only does Alloa Academy focus on developing skills and knowledge within our curriculum, it is a place where we value relationships and teamwork. These are at the heart of everything we do.

“I am extremely proud of the efforts the team made and I'm sure they will be back for more."
