THOUSANDS of pounds was handed to charity by a Wee County veteran for the second year in a row, thanks to his annual golfing fundraiser.

Chris Paterson, 43, was delighted with the help he received for his sporting event, which was held at Livingston's Deer Park Golf and Country Club earlier this month.

He told the Advertiser: "We had a fantastic day with huge support from family, friends, veterans, new friends made on the day and lots of companies that very kindly donated amazing prizes and money.

"It was such an amazing turnout and I'm overwhelmed. Last year I raised over £2,700 so this year it's, like, £500 more."

Chris split the £3,288.55 he raised between two charities, with £2,288.55 going to Combat Stress and £1,000 to the On Course Foundation – two groups which support veterans.

The Tillicoultry man previously sought the help of Combat Stress after a scaffolding accident triggered his post traumatic stress disorder.

He said: "I started these fundraisers because I was being treated at Combat Stress. They helped me a lot so I wanted to give something back to them."

The 2018 event follows on from a successful inaugural fundraiser last year.

This year, as well as sponsors and donations rolling in from companies like the DWS Group and Recharge Natural Beauty, 57 people showed up to Chris' fundraiser on the day.

Buzzing from his fundraiser's success, Chris says he is already excited about organising next year's event.
