A MASCOT is helping Wee County children develop a love for books and reading with families given a chance to meet him this week.

Largo the Literacy Lion, who loves a story, is hanging out at the children’s section in the Speirs Centre in Alloa, with parents and children encouraged to head to a drop-in session tomorrow, (Thursday, October 11), between 4pm and 5pm.

Children are being encouraged to pick up their favourite book and show it off to the fluffy animal alongside their parents with the hopes they will borrow more by the end of the session.

The literacy activity is part of partnership working between Clackmannanshire Council’s education department and library services with the hopes it can improve outcomes for youngsters by getting them reading early.

Involving a tactile object, like Largo, in the process can help spark interest and creativity and there are plans to take the mascot around Wee County primary schools in-the near future.
