AN ALLOA man who spat at police and challenged them to fight was given a Community Payback Order.

John Russell appeared for sentencing at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, October 18, having pleaded guilty to two charges at a previous date.

The charges state that on May 5 this year, Russell shouted, swore, threatened and spat at police officers while being taken to Falkirk Police Station.

He was also found to be in possession of cannabis during the incident.

Russell's lawyer claimed their client's behaviour was caused by an ongoing problem with alcohol.

They said: "It's only his alcohol issues that brings him before the court, and that's something that has to be addressed."

It was highlighted that since Russell, 33, last appeared in court for the same incident, he had been of good behaviour and made an effort to turn things around.

Sheriff David Mackie gave Russell, of Shetland Court, a Community Payback Order with a period of two years' supervision, and required him to attend alcohol counselling sessions.
