THE Rotary Club of Alloa has received the Presidential Citation, one of the highest accolades handed out by Rotary International.

The citation was handed to the Alloa club's 2017-18 president, Kevin McLeod, and its 34 members at Inglewood House, Alloa, on October 10.

John Holme, assistant governor of Rotary Club Scotland North District, was on hand to present the club with its award.

He said: "I think that anyone who has visited the club’s Facebook page will know just how many extra-curricular activities this club has not only done but carried out with great success: Alloa Academy’s Interact Club, established by this club, and supported for the last six years, the Ride for Prostate Cancer, the fundraising to end Polio in the world as well as to support local charities.

"This club is an example to all other clubs in the district, and this has been rightly recognised by the award of the Rotary International Presidential Citation, the certificate for which I am delighted to hand over to the club.”

Alistair Spowage, current president of Alloa Rotary Club, added: “I’d like to extend a massive thank you to all the local people who support our fundraising events, such as our Hillwalk Challenge and Santa at Sterling.

"We would not have achieved our citation without your help.”
