A WEE COUNTY school pupil is celebrating after being named as one of 11 winners in a UK-wide design competition.

Daisy, who goes to Park Primary School, entered the WOW badge design competition from Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking alongside 100,000 others.

Strider, the Living Streets mascot, presented Daisy with her prize in front of her friends, family and local councillors, Cllr Graham Lindsay and Cllr Kenneth Earle in a special assembly last Thursday, October 25.

WOW is Living Streets’ year-round walk to school challenge which sees children who walk to school at least once a week rewarded with a collectable badge each month.

The badges are designed in an annual competition, with 11 winners chosen from over 100,000 entrants.

Cllr Graham Lindsay, spokesperson for education, Clackmannanshire Council said: “Congratulations to Daisy for designing such a striking badge to help encourage young people across the UK to walk to school.

“Walking to school on a regular basis is a great idea, with clear benefits for our families and communities, and I’m pleased that our pupils are taking part in WOW to encourage families to make this choice whenever they can.”

Daisy’s pumpkin design was inspired by autumn and Halloween celebrations, and was chosen as the October badge.

At the end of this month, pupils in over 2,000 schools across the UK will be rewarded with Daisy’s badge if they have walked to school.

Rebecca Simpson, project manager, Living Streets Scotland, said: “We had over 100,000 entries for the WOW badge competition with some fantastic drawings related to the different seasons.

“It was very difficult to choose our winners as there was so much creative talent, Daisy should be very proud.

“We love that Park Primary are continuing their participation in WOW, we are sure the programme will continue to make a huge difference to their pupils’ health and happiness and to the overall schooling experience.”
