A RACE night in Dollar raised more than £2,000 for the community events last week.

The event, which was held in the town’s civic centre, was organised by the Dollar Community Trust’s events team and was well attended with around 70 people turning up to place their bets.

Stephen Leitch, one of the organisers, told the Advertiser the event had gone "fantastically well".

He added: “The purpose was to raise funds for the community. The first cause was for the big events that we hold in Dollar throughout the year.

“Secondly, it was for Dollar in Bloom. We ran a pilot of this last year and then done it more robustly this year and the community enjoyed it.

“The night was very successful with over £2,000 raised and that’s all down to the people involved.

"It was great to see such a mix of people from the community attending.”

There was also a raffle on the night which featured a number of prizes including vouchers for the Japanese Gardens, a plethora of alcoholic beverages and gift vouchers for stores.

Stephen wished to thank a number of sponsors who backed races, including Chips Away, Diamond Dogs Pet Hotel, Brian Devlin Butcher, Craig Prentice Plumbing and Kinrara Gin Distillery who contributed gin to a silent auction.

Also given a special mention were Jo Taylor, Kevin Crawford and the Dollar events team for all the hard work put in to make the night so successful.
