FAMILIES flocked to Alloa's West End Park from far and wide to see this year’s fireworks spectacular at the weekend.

Despite Sparks in the Park having to be postponed to Sunday, November 4, due to a yellow weather warning for rain, around 3,000 went along to enjoy the display, a large bonfire with effigies created by local schoolchildren as well as a number of live acts.

The event was organised by Alloa Round Table with Sparks in the Park event director John Dornan in charge and proceeds will be used for good causes and deserving individuals in the area.

Headlining the event on stage was Donchez Dacres, familiar for bagging a golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent, who received praise for making the night following the last-minute reschedule.

He was a great sport and received a warm Scottish welcome from the round table over the weekend.

John told the Advertiser: “The whole event was a great success; a credit to Clackmannanshire.

“The crowds turned out in their thousands and everybody was in high spirits.”

According to online sales, many came from as far as Falkirk or even Glasgow.

Also on stage was local 12-year-old talent Sophie Johnson; as well as Wee County singer, songwriter and long-term supporter of the event Keiran Fisher.

The Pretty in Pink tribute act was also highly praised and completed the offering.

Some local schools were keen to enter a Guy Fawkes effigy competition with the round table with winners Deerpark Primary School having the pleasure of seeing theirs on top of the bonfire along with the rest of the creations.

Thanks go to staff at Clackmannanshire Council and Police Scotland for accommodating the postponement and working through paperwork or changing shifts, and to all volunteers.
