A SPECIALIST unit with a Sauchie nursing home which provides care for adults with brain injuries has been nominated for a top industry award.

The Willow House care team, based at Hillview Court Nursing Home in Sauchie, has been put forward for the Specialist Service/Unit of the Year category at the Scottish Care Awards 2018.

The award celebrates services and teams which have demonstrated the skills needed to care for patients living with complex medical conditions.

The Willow House team was recommended for the accolade by Jackie Morrison, the regional manager for the group Caring Homes, after being impressed by the level of skill the team had shown over the past year.

She said: “Willow House consistently demonstrates the delivery of the highest quality care.

"This has been particularly evident this year when caring for a young man with a terminal illness.

"The team ensured best quality care for this one man while ensuring the other residents were fully supported.

"This was a difficult time for staff and residents as some had not experienced caring for someone at the end of life.”

A spokesperson for the Willow House care team added: “We are very surprised but thrilled and honoured to be chosen as a finalist in these prestigious awards.”

The award's winner will be announced in front of over 650 people at a ceremony hosted by singer Michelle McManus, at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Friday, November 16.

The ceremony will follow a full day conference with speakers including the cabinet secretary for health and sport, Jeane Freeman.

The Scottish Care Awards have been widely praised for recognising individuals, teams and companies, who are delivering care at an incredibly high standard in an era of challenging budgets and within an increasingly demanding work environment.
