SPORTING achievements from all over the Wee County are to be recognised once again during an awards night at Alloa Town Hall in March.

The Clackmannanshire Sports Council are hosting their annual event to showcase the accomplishments of teams and individuals in the area.

A number of categories have been confirmed, including junior sports personality and senior sports personality of the year.

There will also be a team of the year; primary school of the year; and secondary school team of the year.

The Triumph Over Adversity awards return, for both participation and for sports competitor, as well as coach of the year, for both participation and competition.

There will also be prizes for services to sport; primary young leader awards for those under 12; and young leader or volunteer for seniors under 25.

Finally, the event will also highlight a member of the community for a lifetime contribution to sport.

Kenny Cook, sports development secretary in Clacks, said: "The Sports Awards are always well supported from the community and we always have a high standard of nomination and I would expect the same this year.

"It always amazes people how much local athletes have achieved over the year and the standard they reach.

"Over the years we have had European individual and team champions and a few world champions and I think for such a small county that is quiet astonishing.

"Anyone can nominate an individual or a team," Kenny added. "Some people think the Sports Council choose the nominees, but they all come from someone in the community.

"It could be a parent, husband, wife, relative, friend or a neighbour, as long as we have the information on what they have done.

"The sporting community always look forward to the awards evening as it allows them to show what they have achieved from kids taking part in school events to adults who have been involved in sport nearly all their lives.

"The Sports Council look forward to delivering another great evening of sporting achievements on Thursday, March 14, in Alloa Town Hall."

Nominations forms are available from Wee County leisure centres, community halls, schools, libraries or can be downloaded from ClacksWeb.org

The closing date is Thursday, January 31, and the forms should be returned to Kenny Cook, sports development secretary, at Kilncraigs, Sports Development, 4th Floor, Greenside Street, Alloa, FK10 1EB.
