FURTHER controlled explosions were carried out at the former Longannet Power Station as the decommissioning process continues.
Three smaller structures close to the station’s iconic chimney were "blown down" in calm conditions yesterday (Thursday) by ScottishPower demolition contractor Brown & Mason.
Longannet was closed by ScottishPower in 2016, with the energy giant and its parent company Iberdrola seeking to "decarbonise" the economy and shift towards renewables.
More than 28,000 tonnes of material have been removed from site so far, with 98.5 per cent being recovered and recycled, according to officials.
Demolition works were carried out on site only last month, with coal stock towers brought down in a controlled explosion.
In April, a steel "precipitator structure" was also blown down at Longannet - Scotland’s last coal-fired power station.
