CLACKMANNAN'S second annual Merry and Bright Night Cycle Ride proved to be another huge draw to the county over the festive period.

Much like the inaugural event last, there was an encrouaging turnout of cyclists, young and old, on the night.

Open to anyone and organised by the Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT) and Pedal 4th group, the event was put together to give families a burst of fun and excercise around at Christmas.

The route began at the town's Tolbooth and took cyclists up to Alloa Tower before they doubled back to the start.

Along the way they were met by riders from Pedal 4th, who joined them as they cycled over to Clackmannan again.

All those who braved the cold and dark to take part on Thursday, December 20, were treated to some hot chocolate, mince pies and festive tunes afterwards.

Lesley Shaw, community development officer at CDT, said: "The purpose of the event was to provide a fun activity at time when most of us are over indulging, by getting out in the fresh air and promoting cyclists to be well seen in the dark winter months.

"It was a great opportunity to get together with friends for a laugh, some fresh air and feel good exercise.

"We hope that this will promote people to take up cycling as part of of our new project to develop regular social rides from spring 2019 to explore the local area and its heritage as well as the great means of transport and exercise that cycling can be for locals and visitors."
