CLACKS COUNCIL is seeking input from residents and interested groups on proposals for the division of polling districts in the county.

Officials are also looking to hear from the public on the suitability of the buildings used for polling on election days.

This is the second stage of a public consultation on polling districts and polling places.

Importantly, this exercise is not about ward boundaries, which are set by the Boundary Commission for Scotland.

Wards themselves are divided into polling districts containing designated polling places for voters to attend.

Nikki Bridle, chief executive and returning officer for Clackmannanshire Council, said: "I would like to thank everyone who made representations at the first stage.

"These submissions were used to inform the proposals, put to and agreed by council, which we are now consulting on.

"Ideally, when looking for suitable venues there would have been the choice of a range of available fully accessible buildings, conveniently located for electors in the area within which to establish polling stations.

"In practice, however, the choice of polling places is a balance between the quality of a building, including access and facilities, and the proximity of the building to electors.

“In making our proposals, our aim was to consider the best available options for each of the areas within Clackmannanshire, but obviously we will fully consider any alternative premises should the response to our consultation identify them to be more suitable."

Residents have until April 26 to make their representations, and the consultation can be found on the council’s website, on the consultation page.

The feedback received will inform the final recommendations which will be presented to council after the summer.

Further information on each of the current polling districts and polling places, the full council report and all the submissions made at the first stage, can also be found on the council's website or alternatively contact the election office on 01259 452266.
