SPORTING heroes from across the Wee County were honoured at a fabulous award ceremony last week.

The annual Clackmannanshire Sports Council awards recognise the very best in sporting achievement across all platforms and age groups.

And 2019-19 proved to be the most hotly-contested to date, with a record number of nominations submitted.

The first winner of the night was Eilidh Weir who earned the Junior Sports Personality Award for her achievements in lawn and indoor bowls.

The Senior Sports Personality Award is won by Megan Kennedy for her accomplishments in Rugby.

Team of the year went to Kerri Brylka and Katie Henderson in Equestrian Vaulting.

Ezmae Hill and Ellie MacLaren were given awards in the Triumph Over Adversity (Participation) category, while Lewis McDermid earned the nod in the Triumph Over Adversity (Competition) section.

Athletics stalwart Sandy Dunn was recognised with a Services to Sport Award, before Tillicoultry PS' dual slalom ski team was named Primary School Team of the Year.

The Secondary Team of the Year, meanwhile, went to Alloa Academy's badminton team.

Coach of the Year (Participation) was given to Callum and Mark MacAulay for football, while Coach of the Year (Competition) went to Hannah Eccles for Equestrian Vaulting.

Leah Robertson and Kayleigh Haddow were award the prize of Young Leader/Volunteer (Junior), while Mia Mitchell was named the Young Leader/Volunteer (Senior).

The last award on the night was the Lifetime Contribution to Sport, which was given to Janet Peck for canoeing.

Kenny Cook, of the Clacks Sports Council, said: The awards took place in Alloa Town hall with a record number of 196 nominations over 13 different categories.

"It was an excellent evening and as ever was supported well from the sporting community.

"Sponsors, councillors, invited guest and the public were all overwhelmed by the amount of talent the Wee County continues to produce.

"The Sports Council committee would like to thank everyone who turned up and would like to congratulate all the teams and individuals who were nominated for the awards."
