A NEW out-of-school learning centre has opened in Alloa and is now looking for pupils and mentors to get in touch.

MagiKats Tuition Centre opened yesterday and will offer out-of-school tuition in English and maths for any child from pre-school to National 5.

With centres up and down the country, including two in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, principle Carol Ferguson said there is a large untapped area in central Scotland which she is hoping they can uncover.

The centre will host weekly workshops with the aim of helping pupils improve their project skills, study skills and confidence.

All workshops will be done without computers and phones with the hope that pupils will improve their reasoning and thinking skills.

Carol said: “We are now open and have pupils coming in for assessments before they take up the programme.

"When someone comes in we assess them to see where they’re at in relation to where they should be.

“Parents do not have to commit until after the assessment. We offer English and maths and are now introducing reasoning classes because we have found that pupils are struggling to think through their answer.”

Carol is also appealing for people to get in touch about becoming mentors who will guide the pupils through their work in small groups of no more than six so that there is a personal touch to the learning.

All of the teaching materials are provided by education professionals to keep everything up to the very highest standard it can be for the pupils.

The centre, which is situated at Lime Tree House, Alloa, will offer classes all year round including summer for pupils who are looking to get to grips with a new curriculum.
