THE organiser of sponsored walk in the Hillfoots has offered up his thanks to all those who came along with more people turning up at the Cochrane Park than expected.

Local man Ian Hunter, who suffered a series of strokes around two years ago, was behind the Step out for Stroke event in Alva, held on Sunday, May 12.

It benefited the Stroke Association with the final tally, "a lot more than we expected", still to be counted.

The walk was a chance for stroke survivors, their families and friends, to take part together and raise vital funds while spreading the word.

The route was about a mile long around the park, but people taking part were free to go as far as they are able to, whether that was a shorter distance or lapping multiple times.

It was a sunny day with blue skies, enhanced by the backdrop of the Ochil Hills.

Ian, who is the association's ambassador in the Wee County, wanted to thank everyone for donations and for going along to the event with further nod of appreciation going to Alva Development Trust for their help.

He was always keen to make sure the walk raises awareness as well and has been championing a monthly support group, encouraging every local affected by stroke to drop-in at Ludgate House in Alloa.

The support group meets every third Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm, email susan.bennett@stroke.org.uk or call her on 07764 907 472 for more details.
