THE streets of the Hillfoots town were an array of colour as an invasion of comic and cartoon characters gathered for the annual Alva Fun Day.

Despite the poor weather, Saturday's event was declared a rousing success as families turned out to savour the family atmosphere.

It was kickstarted by the parade along the town centre to the Cochrane Park for the start of the festivities – now in its 6th year.

Cat in the Hat and Bizzy Bee were accompanied by friends including Homer Simpson, Beryl the Pearl, Anna, Princess Jasmine, Ladybug, Bat Woman, Peter Rabbit, Scooby-Doo, & Spiderman.

The colourful musical parade along the main street was led by classic cars and The Background Sound Band.

Community-made bunting also enhanced the appearance of the town on the day.

The afternoon was full of fun activities for all the family to enjoy including bouncy castles, rollercoaster simulator, kick darts, kids rides, face painters, owl magic, tombola and refreshments.

There were various stalls and local food outlets – not to mention the Alva Scouts braving the wrath of the public throwing wet sponges.

Elsewhere, there was the opportunity for teams or individuals to dress up a town centre bollard in a cartoon theme, with a £50 prize for the winner.

Judges had a difficult time choosing a winner, but this year the Bollard Competition Shield and £50 prize was won by Jessica McIvor for her creation of Dennis the Menace.
