THIS year's annual Scobbie Cup event passed successfully with St Serf's primary walking away the victors after a tough competition.

The competition has now taken place for 28 years and consists of the Tullibody primary schools – St Serf's, Abercrombie, St Bernadette's and Banchory – playing against one another to be crowned champions.

During the fiercely contested competition, which was taking place at the park in Tullibody, the eventual winners defeated Abercrombie 2-1, Banchory 3-0 and St Bernadette's 7-0.

Abercrombie won their game against Banchory 2-1 before a 0-0 stalemate with St Bernadette's which was enough to secure them a runner's up spot.

Also on show during the tournament was an encouraging amount of girls taking part in the games as they played alongside their male counterparts.

Mr Scobbie, the sponsor of the tournament, told the Advertiser it was a great day for everyone involved.

He said: "The competition was played in a very competitive and very sporting manner which it has been for the 28 years it has been running.

"The four primary schools should be very proud of that, more than we can say for our senior football players.

"Once more, congratulations to the winners and to everyone for keeping up with the fair play."
