A serial shoplifter has been jailed after targeting stores in Clackmannanshire for months.

Gemma MacCartney, 37, of High Street, Tillicoultry, appeared from custody at Alloa Sheriff Court.

She admitted two lists of thefts which appeared on separate complaints.

The first complaint included thefts from Asda, Aldi, Morrisons and B&M in Alloa, and the B&M store in Stirling, which took place between September 30 and January 28.

Items taken included clothing, confectionery, cleaning products, meat and other food items, alcohol, household goods and hair styling products. 

The second list of charges covered a period from October 14 to December 2. 

Thefts took place from the Co-op, Tullibody Road, Alloa, Tesco in Alloa, the Co-op in Clackmannan, and Morrisons in Alloa, and included items such as meat, milk, detergent, dairy products, candles, cosmetics and clothing.

On the first complaint, Sheriff Neil Bowie jailed MacCartney for 160 days.

Sentence was deferred on the other complaint until April 25.
