OVER 200 pupils from local primaries and Dollar Academy took part in the Clackmannanshire Schools Gymnastics Championships.

The event, held at Alva Academy, was also a qualifying event for the Scottish Schools Final Gymnastics Championships, which will be held in Perth next month.

The competition had two levels. Level 1 was for the less experienced gymnasts, and Level 2 was for the more advanced. There were some very spectacular performances from the primary competitors.

The kids had great support from family members and school staff, with almost 600 spectators attending to watch the youngsters.

Hillfoots Gymnastics Club also helped at the event.

Eleanor McGlashan, former Clackmannanshire PE teacher, donated a trophy to the event when she retired.

The trophy is awarded to the primary Level 1 competitor with the highest individual score on the day. This year’s winner was Lucy Pirrie of Tillicoultry Primary School with a score of 26.2 points.

The schools that qualified to represent Clackmannanshire at the Scottish Schools Finals were Tillicoultry A and Dollar D (Level 1) and Menstrie A and Dollar A (Level 2).

If you have been inspired by the event and would like to take part in gymnastics, the Sports Development team host classes for children at pre-school and school age and for children with Additional Support Needs.
