THERE were smoothie bikes, segways and balloon modelling in Alloa at the weekend.

The sun shone bright for a sustainable travel event held in Kilncraigs car park on Saturday, March 25.

The Alloa Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) team launched the 'shop local, travel local' campaign.

Organised thanks to funding from European Mobility Week, there was plenty to see and do between 10am and 3pm.

There were a number of free activities to try such electric bikes, balance bikes for pre-school children and play on pedals for youngsters, while The Bike Track People were on hand with ramps, rollers, jump and see-saws.

In addition, there was information on local groups, such as Hawkhill Community Centre Cycle Club, Wee County Walkers, Active Travel Hub, Clackmannanshire Ramblers and parent and toddler buggy walks.

There was a steady flow of people popping by throughout the day, from pre-school age right up to those who have retired.

BID manager Lorraine Douglas said: “It went really well location-wise; all the kids had a great day and hopefully we will do more.”

She added a thanks to the groups that came out for the occasion – saying without them it wouldn't have been possible.

The event was organised to help promote the sustainable travel message from mobility week 2016, which had the theme 'smart and sustainable mobility – an investment for Europe’.

It is one of a number of things in the BID's diary: next up is Funbox who will appear at Alloa Town Hall on Thursday, June 22.

This will be followed by a packed summer schedule to help keep the children entertained, which includes dance performances, magic shows and more.
