THE Wee County has shown its generosity last week when schoolchildren donned red to raise funds for Comic Relief.

Extending a helping hand to eradicate poverty, a number of schools held Red Nose Day themed events and activities last Friday, March 24.

Children from Tullibody's Abercromby Primary School and the nursery class wore red on the day and raised more than £380. Nearby St Serf's and Banchory schools also joined in alongside Dollar's Strathdevon Primary and Nursery.

Josh Wilson, teacher at Strathdevon, told the Advertiser the day went brilliantly with all the kids wearing red for the occasion.

He said: “We also held a house event on Friday afternoon, when we asked the children to bring in as many 1p and 2p coins as they possibly could in an intra-house competition to see which house could create the longest coin line in the hall.”

All the coins went towards good causes in the end and the school was also selling red noses to families and kids with all proceeds going to charity.

With everything combined, the children, families and staff raised a whopping £1,055.91.

Mr Wilson added: “It was a brilliant event. The whole day there was a lovely feeling around the school and the house captains who organised the house event are very-very proud of the contribution that their part of the day was able to make.

“The pupil council, who led the rest of the fundraising are very proud of their donation as well. The fact all the school committees and the children who've got responsibility within the school were able to contribute to such a successful fundraising day is fantastic.”

He wanted to thank the families and the whole school community who, “as always”, have been very generous.

In the same town, Dollar's Deli was also proud to support the appeal with its one-off specials like the Snippy Cracker and the Snooty Sandwich – profits from which went straight to good causes.

Owner Joanna Taylor said: “We are delighted to have raised £282.20 and had great fun throughout the week, with the team dressing up for Red Nose Day.

“Thank you to all our customers for supporting and getting involved.”
