THE sun shone for a consultation fun day held in Alloa earlier this week.

Hundreds of people – somewhere in the region of 400-500 – flocked to the Wimpy Park on Monday, May 1.

Families filed into the spot for some bank holiday activities and there was music, a barbecue, bouncy castle, games, football, face-painting and ice-cream.

There was also the opportunity for local people to share what they would like to see happen in the space in the future.

The three-hour event was organised by the Wimpy Park Community Group, which has been set-up in a bid to redevelop the once popular area in the Mar Polices.

One of the founders, Mark Mitchell, said: "[The turnout was] absolutely amazing – amazed by how many people turned out.

"It blew the whole group away the support that was shown by the community."

Since its inception in December, volunteers have been busy mulling over suggestions and have recently started cleaning up the area.

A committee has been formed, a constitution is in place and new members are being welcomed.

Plenty of positive feedback, and ideas, were received by the group during Monday's event.

There were many great elements to the day – which saw organisers have to top up on refreshments due to the unexpected demand – which got the community back into the park again.

Of the highlights, Mark said: "Just meeting everybody that was coming in – meeting everybody and seeing kids playing football again."

Thanks is given to everyone who has shown support and local businesses who helped make the event possible.

Mention also goes to Clackmannanshire Council, which is the landowner, which has helped the group to get where it is.
