A COUPLE have put their creative talents to good use by arranging a novel fundraising event in aid of Clackmannan tot, Cooper Keen.

The four-year-old has hydrocephalus and has a VP shunt in his brain to drain fluid and relieve pressure; he also has cerebral palsy.

Unable to move around unaided, his family have been busy trying to raise money for adaptations to make their home more suitable for him.

On hearing of their plight, Pamela, 35, and Martin McLennan, 46, the husband and wife team behind Fraser Luis Photography, felt motivated to help.

They decided to take an unusual approach and organised a mini me photoshoot, teaming up with ABC Nursery and Wee Print to raise money.

Pamela, from Alloa, said: "We see Cooper every day at nursery because our son is in his class and he is adorable.

"Lucas, his twin, is equally adorable; they have such a loving relationship.

"I knew we could do better than to just donate a small amount of money, so we decided to do this."

On Monday, June 26, they invited the parents of all children who attend the nursery to allow their little ones to be photographed for a £10 donation.

Afterwards, they are editing the images and uploading them to a gallery, where families can purchase prints or digital downloads.

The photographers have reduced their fee considerably to make it accessible for all and have been going for a modern, contemporary look.

Not the usual type of school photo, Pamela said they wanted to do something different and fun which, in a nutshell, is Cooper.

Of her motivation to get involved, she said: "I’m a mother too – it’s just instinct to feel that you need to help and do something.

"The family have been through enough and it’s important that the community pull together to help as best we can.

"Cooper would benefit so much from having his bedroom downstairs, and access to the family garden.

"These are things that most of us take for granted and he deserves the chance to experience this – he really is a little miracle."

Cooper's mum, Kerrie, said: "Pamela and her husband have been fantastic in organising this for Cooper – it's such a great idea.

"I would like to say how grateful we are to the ABC Nursery and to the local community for the support they have given us."

The family want Cooper to be happy and secure and feel having the funding to carry out alterations would help with this.

Kerrie added: "We are struggling to carry him around and my biggest fear is falling on the stairs while carrying him.

"It's only going to get harder as he gets older and bigger.

"Once we have the bedroom and home adaptations completed, it will change our lives and Cooper's life completely.

"I don't ever want him to feel like he's a burden or to know we are struggling to move him around."

And plans are also underway to continue with the drive later in 2017.

Pamela said: "The nursery staff, Martin and I are also planning to hold a charity fundraising evening this October.

"We'd like to involved as many local events suppliers as possible, so if any are reading this, please donate what you can – be it services or financially.

"The important thing to remember here is that everyone can do something, no matter how small – it all adds up."
