A FINAL call-out has been issued to people in Alloa to vote for the town's High Street in an online competition ahead of the deadline this weekend.

“With the deadline approaching we need your votes now”, said Alloa Town Centre Business Improvement District (ATCBID) manager Lorraine Douglas, who is asking locals to cast their votes in the 'Scotland's Most Beautiful High Street' competition.

She told the Advertiser: "I'm definitely hopeful Alloa will win, I don't see why not!"

The shopping strip “has been fortunate to have made the shortlist” and as to why the street is a worthy candidate, Lorraine added: “With the old town clock from 1912 above the old Co-op building, Rob Mulholland’s Mirror Men statues, flower barrels and hanging baskets and a wide variety of traders, Alloa’s High Street has mixture of art and heritage within a small area.

“The addition of free WiFi provided by ATCBID also provides a welcome to technology into the High Street.”

Voting closes on Sunday, October 1, and the winner will be announced at a conference in Paisley later in November.

The competition is being organised by the Scottish Towns Partnership.

Alloa is up against Banff, Elgin, Falkirk, Forres, Fort William, Haddington, Lanark, Moffat and Troon.
