ALLOA FC fans could be set to welcome the triumphant Duncan Scott to the Indodrill Stadium for a well-earned lap of honour.

Fresh from his stunning performances at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Clacks native will likely be seeking a deserved break.

However, he may be tempted to head along to one of the Wasps' last remaining home games this season, just as his boyhood favourites chase a play-off spot in League One.

Before jetting off to Australia, the swimmer admitted he would love to parade a gold at the ground – just days before claiming the top spot in the Mens 100m freestyle event.

Mike Mulraney, chairman at Alloa FC, has now extended an invitation and is hoping to see the athlete take a bow before his fellow supporters.

He told the Advertiser: "Duncan was absolutely brilliant. It's just fantastic to see a young lad who started out at Alloa Swimming Club to go on to perform that well at the top level.

"He is now the most successful Scot at any Commonwealth Games – that's something for us all to be proud of.

"Not only is he a fantastic swimmer, but he has a fantastic character as well."

Mr Mulraney feels the county has not one but two reasons to celebrate Duncan's achievements, as the coach at the centre of it all also hails from Clacks.

Steven Tigg is head performance swimming coach at Stirling University and along with others has been helping to developing talent in the pool for years.

Mr Mulraney continued: "We've been aware of Duncan for a number of years. I remembering hearing about him from his coach Steven when he was 10 year old.

"He was talking about the potential he had and it's just great to see that potential now coming through.

"I think there was another girl that Steven is coaching who is on the England team and she won a gold as well. They must be doing something right there at Stirling Uni."

Alloa FC have only one home league game left to play this season, though others will be scheduled should they claim a play-off spot.

The club are hopeful Duncan might be in the stands for the visit of Ayr on April 22, but would keep the invitation open for the star.

Mr Mulraney added: "It's good for Alloa Football Club too, to have a local celebrity fan still coming to games and supporting his local team.

"We now look forward to inviting him down to a game in the near future to have him parade his medals for the crowd there.

"Obviously, his and Steven's training regiment will dictate when we could do that but the sooner the better. If we can have them there for the Ayr game, then great. If not, some time after.

"It's just great to see both Duncan and Steven doing well and long may that continue."
