SHOPPERS in Alloa looking to quit smoking can get some handy advice at a store this weekend.

The Quit Your Way roadshow will hit the town’s Lidl on Sunday, May 20, as part of a national tour, offering support to smokers and helping them get through the first 72 hours of quitting and beyond.

Three-quarters of people who tried to put the habit out for good agreed that the first three days of quitting are the hardest, according to research, and advisers will be on hand at the shop between 10am and 6pm to guide people through Quit Your Way online.

Stress balls will also be handed out to help locals get through those difficult moments when the body starts craving nicotine.

Research shows that with the right support, smokers are twice as likely to quit for good and the service aims to tailor its help to suit the individual.

Sheila Duffy, Chief Executive of health charity ASH Scotland, said: “Making that choice for yourself is key.

“Some smokers just stop and find it easier than they thought.

“For others it can take a number of tries to find out what works best. Each time you try, you will learn something about yourself.

“There's no one way that works for everyone, but quitting smoking is well worth it however many attempts it takes to succeed.

“It's the best thing you can do for your own health and for those you love.”
