FIVE children did the Wee County proud in Edinburgh last week at the finals of a national competition.

The pupils from Redwell Primary School missed out on a podium finish by just one point at the Euroquiz finals, organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET), finishing fourth out of 32 on Tuesday, May 15.

The team of Ross Jardine, Victoria Anestik, Liam Clark, Kayla Marlin and Harrison Fraser put their knowledge on history, geography, sport, culture and languages to the test at the Scottish Parliament’s chamber, where Clackmannanshire’s political representatives are often debating significant issues with their peers.

The quintet’s journey started at Alloa Academy in February, as reported in the Advertiser at the time, when the local heats took place.

They defeated fellow students from Menstrie, St Mungo’s, Abercromby, Clackmannan and St Serf’s schools to earn their place in the final.

Since then, parent helper Sylvia Anestik ran a study club for the team, supporting their preparations.

And with the youngsters almost clinching a spot on the podium, the efforts paid off.

Across the country, more than 470 schools took part, involving around 2,300 pupils in regional heats and the national final.

SEET is a non-political charity, working to promote language learning, skills development and education about Europe and the wider world to young people across Scotland.
