Hawkhill Community Centre has received its £4000 cheque from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust for a new after school homework club.
The centre was awarded the cash through the trust’s Community Investment Programme.
The club will initially cater for pupils from Park and Sunnyside Primary Schools.
Sessions will run from 4pm till 5.30pm with one-to-one help sessions from highly experienced staff with access to the centre’s computer suite for research, some physical activity and a healthy snack.
May Richmond, centre manager, said, “We ran a pilot scheme last term, and were delighted with the response particularly after the children themselves told us they would really like help with their homework. The support of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust has been absolutely vital, and we simply could not have run the classes without their help.”
