Clacksfirst BID was called to the rescue to help resolve a mystery at Beatsons Building Supplies.

Staff at the Clackmannanshire-based firm arrived at work last Tuesday (9 Sept) to find that a surrounding wall to their premises had ‘collapsed’ during the night.

Suspecting foul play, company director Ross Marshall called Clacksfirst Business Improvement District (BID) curious to find out if their CCTV cameras captured anything going bump in the night.

Ross said, “I was staggered to see the extent of the damage and immediately thought that a vehicle had done the damage, a big vehicle. I knew Clacksfirst BID had installed a CCTV system at The Whins so I called them right away.” Clacksfirst BID recently completed the installation of around 20 high-spec CCTV cameras throughout Clackmannanshire’s business parks and industrial estates as part of its stated objective of making working in the area safe and premises secure.

Kevin Deighan of Clacksfirst said, “Our CCTV is there for our BID members and I would encourage them to get in touch if they have been on the receiving end of foul play. Whilst the cameras work as a deterrent to crime, they are also extremely useful in an instance like this.

“After Ross called, we had a look and found that a haulage truck had come into Beatsons’ premises and reversed into the wall.” Clacksfirst informed Beatsons, supplying the truck registration number and name of the haulage company. After a meeting, both parties agreed to resolve the situation between themselves with the haulage company picking up the bill for the re-building of the wall.

Kevin added, “I’m not privy to the cost of repairing the wall but, from what I’ve seen, I’m sure it will run into thousands of pounds. Thankfully our CCTV has done its job and saved one of our member businesses a considerable amount of money.” Clacksfirst BID also employs mobile security guards to patrol the BID area during nights.
