ALLOA Writers are seeking new blood.

The group recently moved to its new home, The Claremont Lodge Hotel.

It meets on alternate Monday evenings from 7-9pm and supports writers of all abilities and genres – in particular short-story and verse.

Some members are unpublished while others have published fiction, non-fiction or verse.

Originally formed in the early seventies as part of a community initiative, Alloa Writers Group was set up as a charitable body in the early 1990s, meeting first in the Town Hall’s Art Space, before moving to The Royal Oak Hotel until its closure.

Over the years the group has hosted writing workshops, ‘Open Mic’ nights and joint meetings with other writing groups. Members have also written works for local amateur drama groups.

A spokesperson for the group said, “Typical meetings are topic evenings, where writers read short pieces of up to six hundred words, or up to 20 lines of verse. After Christmas we are planning to hold joint meetings with a couple of other local groups.” The next meeting will take place on Monday, 22 September.
