Two Wee County butchers served up a slice of success.

Alloa’s James Aitken Butchers and Tullibody’s J Hutchison Butchers & Sons walked away winners in the 2014 Scottish Sliced Sausage Plus Evaluation.

Aitkens took home gold for their black chip lorne, whilst Hutchisons was presented with silver for their onion sliced sausage.

There was double success for Aitkens as they also picked up medals in the Year of the Haggis awards.

The evaluations, organised by Scottish Craft Butchers (SCB), sought products that deviated away from the traditional lorne sausage to make a square sausage with a difference. In total, Scottish butchers submitted 100 sausage entries and 121 haggis products for tasting.

At the awards presentation, held in The DoubleTree by Hilton in Dundee last Wednesday (10 Sept), SCB president Ian Faulds said, “Own recipe meat products are extremely important in attracting customers to our butchers’ shops.

“Some go miles out of their way to hunt down their favourite savouries.

“Sliced sausage is such an iconic Scottish product that customers are interested in any new taste associated with it. I’m sure consumers in Clackmannanshire will enjoy these tasty sausages.” James Aitken Butchers: Gold - Chicken parcel Gold - Black chip lorne Silver - Mac lorne J Hutchison Butchers & Sons: Silver - Onion sliced sausage
