A LOCAL initiative has been awarded up to £100,000 in funding.

The Alloa skate park project has been give a share of £2.4 million by the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund, part of the Scottish Government’s £10 million pot.

Ellen Forson, convener councillor for Education, Sport and Leisure said, “The Alloa skate park project is about creating a fantastic and fun skate park for local young people.

“The establishment of a skate park in Sauchie last year has been very popular with young people and there is evidence of significant demand for a similar facility elsewhere in the county.” The successful bid outcome was announced by cabinet Secretary for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison this week, with the money going towards a new skate park in the site adjacent from the Bowmar Centre.

Community group Clackmannanshire Youth Voice were a key player in the bidding process and will continue to be involved throughout the project.

Councillor Forson added, “This project fits with the objectives of Making Clackmannanshire Better. It will provide a safe and attractive place for young people to gather, while also promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.”
